Klarna and Visa Begin Pilot of Flexible Debit Card Pilot at Money 2020 Europe

Klarna, the AI-driven payments and commerce network, has introduced the pilot of the Klarna Card, a debit product that offers flexible payment options both online and in-store. Launched in partnership with Visa and issued by WebBank, the Klarna Card gives consumers the ability to pay immediately or choose to delay payments, with access to over 150 million Visa-accepting merchants globally. Currently in a limited trial phase in the U.S., the card includes features such as a built-in FDIC-insured wallet and seamless integration with Klarna’s existing Pay in 4 and Pay Later services. The full rollout is expected later this year across the U.S. and Europe.

David Sandström, Chief Marketing Officer at Klarna, commented, “We consistently hear from consumers that they want the freedom to choose how and when to pay - whether that’s paying now with debit or spreading the cost over time. That’s exactly what has made Klarna payment methods so popular online, and now that same experience is coming to a physical card. The Klarna Card is the future of everyday banking - creating smart payments to empower smarter shoppers.” Mathieu Altwegg, SVP at Visa Europe, noted that millions have adopted Visa’s Flexible Credential, highlighting it as a clear sign of a future where a single card can support all preferred payment methods.
