Backbase has appointed Adrian McPhee as Chief Technology Officer to lead its technology and data efforts as the company expands its AI-based banking platform. McPhee brings more than 20 years of experience across financial services, digital platforms, and enterprise technology. Before joining Backbase, he served as Global CTO at LeasePlan, where he led a 1,000-member technology team and delivered a large-scale digital transformation. His work included modernizing digital infrastructure, expanding engineering capabilities, and implementing data and AI platforms, earning industry recognition such as the 2022 IDC Award for Data Management Excellence.
In his new role, McPhee will oversee Backbase’s product engineering, innovation roadmap, and AI technology initiatives, including the company’s Intelligence Fabric and Agentic AI. His appointment aligns with Backbase’s strategic focus on helping banks modernize operations and adopt AI at scale.
