Fiserv to Takeover Remaining Stake in AIB Merchant Services

Fiserv has announced its agreement to acquire the remaining 49.9% of AIB Merchant Services (AIBMS), a joint venture it operates with AIB Group. Fiserv offers a wide range of payment and financial technology services, while AIB continues to serve retail and business clients primarily in Ireland and the UK. The move aims to strengthen Fiserv’s position in Ireland and the wider European market. AIBMS, founded in 2007, is one of the largest providers of payment solutions in Ireland and a major player in European e-commerce acquiring. Though financial terms were not disclosed, AIB Group confirmed it will continue to support the partnership by referring customers to AIBMS for merchant acquiring services. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the third quarter.

Executives from both companies emphasized their continued cooperation. Katia Karpova, Head of the EMEA region at Fiserv, highlighted the success of the partnership and noted plans to increase the presence of Clover, a point-of-sale and business management platform, across the region. AIB CEO Colin Hunt added, “We believe Fiserv has the commitment, experience and innovative technical solutions to grow AIBMS and that our customers will continue to be well-served under their sole ownership.” He also stated, “We are pleased to support our business customers by maintaining a close on-going relationship with Fiserv.”
